This is when Crow's demon takes over. He tries to get Starfire to leave, afraid that the demon will hurt her. But she won't leave him, promising to always stay by him -- even in his darkest moments.
The demon and she do fight for a time, but she is afraid of hurting Crow's body, so she tries to hold back. (Crow does have healing abilities, but he can't use them on himself.)
Finally, she resolves to just love him, which makes the demon rage and try to kill her. Starfire manages to overpower him and then gives Crow a hug, which breaks through to his trapped soul. Once he gains control again, he returns the hug with her.
